Normalcy
The definition of Normalcy is: the quality or condition of being
normal, as the general economic, political, and social conditions of a nation;
normality. This was president’s idea of building a strong country. Normalcy
under Harding meant a government that was pro-business, anti-tax, and
anti-regulation. Harding cut income tax rates for the wealthiest Americans from
73% to 25%. Therefore, the stock market had skyrocketed. By 1929, the richest
one tenth of one percent of Americans owned as much wealth as the bottom 42%.
This unstable economy led to the Great Depression. Harding’s Corruption with
Normalcy gave him the title of one of the worst presidents. Harding was in
office for less than three years before the corruption he had caused was known
to the public. Harding’s idea to bring normalcy (promoting business as the main
idea in a country) caused many economical disasters.

The Palmer
Raids
By:
James Mueggenberg
The Palmer Raids were a series of raids that resulted in a lot of arrests
of suspected communists. These
“communists”were held without trial by Alexander Palmer, the Attorney General,
and John Edgar Hoover, his assistant and future director of the F.B.I., just
because they were suspected of conspiring to overthrow the government. Although no evidence of the revolution
was found, many of the people arrested were deported.
A few months after the first set of raids, which took place on the
7th of November in the year 1919 resulting in 10,000 arrests, Palmer sent
out more raids. These
raids took place on the 2nd
of January in the year 1920 and results in 6,000 more arrests.
The Palmer Raids got their name because it was Palmer who ordered
them. Also,
John Edgar Hoover was suspected of being a homosexual with his assistant Clyde
Tolson.
